ICS 2008, Shimla
Instructional Course in Spine (ICS) 2008 was held in Shimla from 7th to 10th August 2008. There were 190 registered delaegates.
The conference commenced 7th afternoon with a cadaveric workshop at the dissection hall of the Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, where aspiring enthusiastic young surgeons tried their hand at various approaches & instrumentations of the spine, with invaluable input from the masters.
In addition there was a saw bone workshop by Medtronic, Globus, Synthes, Sushrut, & Stryker.
The next 3 days saw a feast of academics with debates and case discussions as well as expert lectures from the ESS faculty .
The conference also included a picnic to Chail Palage and Fagu , where the delegates interacted with each other and the faculty.

SRS regional meeting - Deformity Course - New Delhi
The Association of Spine Surgeons of India (A.S.S.I.) in collaboration with the Spine Society Delhi Chapter, organized the Scoliosis Research Society Worldwide Programme on “SPINAL DEFORMITY : CURRENT CONCEPTS - 2008” Conference in the Capital city of Delhi at the Hotel Intercontinental The Grand, from Oct 2nd-4th 2008. The conference hosted the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) worldwide programme for the first time in India, along with a galaxy of “Stars” in the field of spinal deformity as faculty the likes of L. Lenke, R. McCarthy, B. Akbarnia, H. Shuffelbarger, S. Suk , R. Gaines, P. Sanchez, H.K. Wong, S. Shah, Munish Gupta and others from abroad as well as our own Indian Leaders in the Field.
The delegates were taken through didactic lectures on the natural history, causation and the systematic management with specific surgical techniques for a variety of spinal disorders by the “Masters” who have been the inventors of these procedures. The conference gave ample scope for individual interactions in special sessions like “Meet the Masters” sessions, which was moderated skillfully and knowledgeably by the Indian Faculty.
.A total of 5 saw-bone workshops were held on the first day with World renowned faculty demonstrating the nitty-gritty's of various surgical techniques on models, followed by lengthy interactions. The support of the Industry for the workshops and the conference in general was magnanimous and was appreciated by all.
The conference also hosted 42 free papers presentations and 45 poster presentations of high standard from Indian and Foreign delegates on all aspects of spinal disorders which was very much appreciated by the entire faculty. The selection of the presentations was done by a blinded impartial committee of eight experts three from India and five from the SRS. The following papers were awarded:

The conference brought together more than 300 delegates from India, Asia Pacific Region and also from western hemisphere. An astonishing total of 21 countries were represented by the Faculty and the delegates at the conference, making it a truly “worldwide” programme. |
